Rules of Play
Some of our playing protocols are listed below for your reference however we will go through the relevant details before each session. You will realise of course that with guests arriving from many different places in the UK that it would be difficult to run a whist drive without laying down some ground rules for the conduct of our drives.
ACES HIGH AT ALL TIMES - INCLUDING CUTS Please attract the attention of the MC if any problem occurs and let her/him make a decision. Score cards to be filled up after each hand and passed to an opponent for initialling. Scores of 0,1,2 and 3 should be circled and the MC should be asked to initial any double figures. SIT OUTS WILL TAKE A SCORE OF 8 AT EACH HANDPROGRESSIVE WHIST At the start of each game, ladies cut and lowest cut leads. After cutting and if necessary, one couple should change places to allow the winning gentleman to deal to the loosing lady on his left. Loosing gent shuffles, winning lady cuts and winning gent deals to loosing lady on his left who then leads. After first game, winning lady moves to the next table up and winning gent moves round one place to his left. Loosing gent will shuffle the cards and winning gent coming to the table cuts - losing gentleman from the previous hand will then deal to the losing lady on his left.
SEMI-PARTNER WHIST At the start of each game, ladies cut and lowest cut leads. After the first hand, winning couple stay in the same position, losing lady moves up and losing gent moves down. Winning gent shuffles, winning lady cuts and losing gent coming to the table then deals across the table to the losing lady (his partner) who then leads.
RAINBOW WHIST On each table, the four players start with a different coloured card each (white, yellow, pink or blue). There are no ladies or gents categories in this form of whist but white should play with pink and yellow with blue - on the first three hands. From then onwards, all the instructions for mode of play are on the card and should be followed exactly. Particularly, the person who deals should deal to the person who is to lead. The only major difference in this game is that each group of four, play three consecutive games before moving. After each three hands players should check that opposing partners score plus their own total should add up to 39.
